Who We Are

    Tony

...Those were the words that came out of Tony's mouth when he learned he had just been given the chance to work in the community. It was the first community-based opportunity Tony had in a long time and he was thrilled.

Shortly after Tony began the job, he was let go because of lack of work. Tony didn't let the news dampen his mood. He was optimistic that another opportunity would come along.

Sure enough, another opportunity arose. Tony once again said, "I'm so outta here...and hopefully for good this time!" With a smile spanning ear-to-ear, Tony exclaimed, "I love my job. It feels so good to be out in the community working like everyone else."

Tony is one of 24 consumers who recently began working at Belimo's newly renovated facility in Danbury. He works on the second shift Monday thru Friday doing production work.

Tony's job trainer, Michelle Weinstein, commented on what it is like to work with Tony: "...he brings a lot of energy to the job, he is a hard worker and a great person to be around." Adding that Tony is a "true asset to any company he works for," Weinstein exclaimed, "he loves his job and he is really good at what he does."

This opportunity has brought out the best in Tony. His self-esteem has grown and he has become increasingly involved in other community-based activities. "I like to get out and talk to new people," said Tony. "I go with a group to visit local students and we work on projects together and talk; it's a lot of fun- it gets me out of the house and I like that."

Tony is one of four consumers who participate in a team-building program with local middle school students. The team participates in a wide range of activities that stimulate social interaction.

The chance to work in the community not only gave Tony the opportunity to earn a paycheck, but it has helped him feel a sense of pride and has given him the confidence he needs to enjoy life to the fullest!
