    Meet John

    When John was born in 1933, children with Down syndrome did not live at home, but his parents wouldn’t have it any other way.  As John grew up he required more support and eventually came to Ability Beyond Disability where he began to build a life for himself.

    With the help of Ability Beyond Disability, he learned new skills, made friends and became involved with activities such as Special Olympics.  When John passed away in 1999 he was 66 years old and one of the oldest surviving individuals with Down syndrome in the country.

    There are many more adults with disabilities like John who are surviving well into their twilight years.  They deserve to build a life too, and with our support, they can do that.

Lucy has transformed from someone who was shy and hesitant to someone who is social and interacts with her co-workers.  She used to need prompting from her job coach but now she is able to accomplish her tasks independently...and she continues to grow each and every day!”
