    Serving those who serve others

Ability Beyond Disability management honors employees for years of service

BETHEL, CT -- It’s not every day you find the President & CEO of an organization wearing a chef hat on his head and an apron tied around his waist, carrying pitchers of lemonade and balancing trays of cookies.  But that’s exactly what Thomas H. Fanning, President & CEO of Ability Beyond Disability was doing on June 3rd, along with each of the vice presidents and directors from across the organization.  They devoted their afternoon to serving lunch to a group of Ability Beyond Disability employees; thanking them for the years they’ve dedicated to serving people with disabilities.

The luncheon honored 76 employees for 20, 15, 10 and 5 years of service to Ability Beyond Disability.  The Upper Crust in New Milford donated all of the food and senior management donated their time to serve the honorees.

Fanning began the program by saying a few words of thanks.

"I am proud to work with all of you - you represent the best of who we are as human beings - your kindness, compassion, generosity of spirit and dedication is truly admirable...and for that I thank you," said Fanning.  "It is because of all of you that we are able to help thousands of people each and every year."

Nora Tigner of New Milford was honored for 20 years of service to the organization.

"The luncheon was one of the most creative celebrations I have ever attended," she said. "To be waited on by the upper management was humility at its best!"

Though the culture of employee appreciation is important to Ms. Tigner, it’s the people served by Ability Beyond Disability that has kept her at the organization for 20 years.

"What has kept me here is knowing that I am able to help people get the support they need to make it in the world," she said.

Meet Calvin Calvin had just graduated from High School and was looking for support as he started his adult life working in the community. Ability Beyond Disability was able to help him.
