2nd Annual Career Development Consumer & Employer Breakfast“I love my job”. That is a phrase employers often hope to hear from their employees; and on the morning of October 15th, that phrase was spoken by many consumers of Ability Beyond Disability at the 2nd Annual Career Development Consumer & Employer Breakfast. The event was held at the Leir Pavilion and over 50 individuals were in attendance to celebrate both the vocational achievements of consumers and the unwavering support of their employers. To begin the event, five employers were recognized as “Employers of the Year” by Career Development. They were chosen for demonstrating characteristics such as flexibility, reasonable accommodations and natural supports for Ability Beyond Disability consumers on the job. The Employers of the Year for 2008 included Olive Garden, Sodexo, Olde Towne Cleaners, Ridgefield Town Hall and Village at Brookfield. All those in attendance were recognized and presented with a framed certificate for their dedication to the employment of people with disabilities. The Career Development department then went on to present certificates to the consumers in attendance for their vocational achievements in 2008. Ability Beyond Disability employment specialists said a few words about each consumer and they in turn had the opportunity to tell everyone in the room about their job(s) and how Ability Beyond Disability has helped them achieve success in the workplace. The success of Ability Beyond Disability’s employment services was apparent not only by the sheer number of people at the event, but by the pride each individual showed as he or she received a certificate and was applauded on a job well done. |
